Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 12, 2026
Animal Sound Identifier ("the app") helps you identify birds and other wildlife from a photo or a recorded sound, and explore nature recordings. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app processes and why.
Information We Process
- Photos and camera images you capture or choose, when you use photo identification.
- Audio recordings you make with the microphone, or audio files you upload, when you use sound identification.
- Location, only if you grant permission, to show nearby bird activity on the map. You can deny or revoke this at any time in your device settings.
- Purchase and subscription status (such as active plan and entitlement), handled through Apple and our subscription management provider (RevenueCat). We do not receive your full payment card details.
- Push notification identifiers, if you allow notifications, through our messaging provider (OneSignal).
- Diagnostics, crash reports, and app usage analytics, through Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, to help us find and fix problems and understand feature usage.
- Advertising and attribution identifiers, to measure the effectiveness of our marketing and comply with platform requirements (such as Apple's App Tracking Transparency), where applicable and only with your consent.
How We Use Information
We use this information to identify the species in your photo or recording, show relevant nature content near you, manage subscriptions and free trials, send notifications you've opted into, fix bugs, improve reliability, and understand which features are useful.
Photo and Sound Identification
Photos and audio you submit for identification are sent to our servers and identification/AI processing partners solely to return a result to you. We do not use your photos or recordings to identify you personally, and we do not sell them.
Third-Party Services
The app relies on trusted third parties to operate: Apple (app distribution and in-app purchases), RevenueCat (subscription management), Firebase (analytics and crash reporting), OneSignal (push notifications), and advertising/attribution partners (such as TikTok's measurement tools) where enabled. Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy and only for the purpose described above.
Data Storage and Retention
Some content, such as downloaded recordings and app preferences, is stored locally on your device. Server-side data is kept only as long as needed to provide the app, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and maintain security.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data with the service providers listed above only as needed to operate the app, and we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety and rights of our users.
Your Choices
You can deny or revoke camera, microphone, photo library, location, and notification permissions at any time in your device settings; most of the app continues to work without them, though identification and location-based features require the relevant permission. You can cancel a subscription from your Apple ID account settings. To request access to or deletion of your data, contact us below.
Children
Animal Sound Identifier is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
